I started doing social media marketing out of necessity, I needed to publicize my product which was at the time a magazine. I had big dreams but no way to accomplish them. I simply stayed diligent and consistent knowing that something good would come out of it. Looking for a way to make your products known to your customers?
You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream – C.S. Lewis
If I didn’t keep my dreams alive, it would have never become a reality.
At the time I had just handful of people who were interested in reading the magazine for free, not pay, can you imagine? I bet some people want to freeload on your business? They want free editing, free cakes, free hand wash or they want them at a giveaway price. Put your foot down and give your service a value.
It takes years and years to build a dream/business without considering how much your parents spent on your education and how much you are still spending on it. Give your service value and stick to it. Your customers are out there, everyone is not your customer. Some are lessons. Give your product value and then publicise your dream.
For years and years I knew my worth but I was not communicating it right. You cannot expect less than you are worth and expect people to treat you better.
Start planning. What do you hope to accomplish? How much do you want to make? Are you willing to build yourself up and then to sell your brand to everyone you know? Everyone is a sales person, you are either selling yourself right or selling yourself short. Start building yourself and then your brand.
I understand the power of words and what it does to people and how it creates an image in your head. You need to begin to control the image that your customer has in their head anytime they come across your brand on digital media.
I believe everything that I write. Some of the greatest world changers, inventors and business people started with a dream. What is your dream?
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
I was not exactly sure where the path would lead when I began working in the communications department of the second company where I worked (I was marketing executive in my first company), all I knew was that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of the people around me. Over the course of the next six years I learned how to write, edit, print, take photographs, use social media for social good and make impact. I gathered a large network of amazing people who are also making impact and changing the world. I interviewed so many people (CEOS, Executives and yet ordinary people) and told their stories with passion and grit. These stories have changed the lives of many.
I moved on from that organization and worked in content marketing and social media marketing for the leading real estate company in West Africa, Fine and Country, then Guardian and BusinessDay (two newspaper houses). I have learned something new from everyone I have worked with from loyalty, emotional intelligence and the power of teamwork. I have learned integrity, honesty and humility from amazing bosses I have had the privilege of interacting with one on one. I have garnered a lot of experience and have been privileged to meet some of the movers and shakers on God’s earth. I won’t be calling names but after the privileged childhood my parents gifted me with, I had the honour of being trained by a 60-something year old man amidst a group of 15 other people. He taught us how to seat, speak, communicate effectively and of course market. Marketing is a way of life, I didn’t believe him fully until I had some practice of what life is about.
Long and short, I am privileged to be on this part and I will leave a trail and by the grace of God, there will be no short cuts and all of it will mirror honesty and integrity.
All men dream, but no equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible – Anon
One of the greatest advice you can ever receive is that directive to act on your dream.
I have big dreams. I have been privileged to have met several prophetic people. Let’s say I find it easier to connect with prophetic people. Almost all artists are somewhat that way, we have power to create something in our heads we see long before others can. Yes! It is really hard dealing with people who are obsessed with what they can see with their eyes. They are also a blessing because they force you to implement and prove to them that what you see is real. Long before it is physical. Act, act act!
My first actions were doing two different certifications. I am an Udemy Certified Social media manager and I was trained in Creative Writing by Lifeway Training School. I am still doing at least two different trainings every year, can’t afford to get rusty, can I?
There is so much to do. I will do them all by the grace of God.
I am casting off restraints, believing for the great and mighty things God will show me and my team and we are off on an adventure to explore the new things.
I would love to be on that journey with you.
20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the wind in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. – Mark Twain
